Our oceans, breathtaking natural wonders and home to extraordinary marine life, serve as a crucial buffer for Earth’s climate and ecosystems. However, ocean habitats are rapidly deteriorating, with overfishing being a leading cause of damage. The most effective and sustainable strategy to reduce overfishing is the production of cultured fish meat as a viable alternative for human consumption.
To achieve this, we teamed up with the Nachman Lab (TAU), our CEO Roee Nir, and CTO Moria Shimoni to establish Forsea Foods — an innovative startup dedicated to nourishing humanity while safeguarding the health, wealth, and sustainability of our oceans.
A fish fillet is primarily composed of muscle tissue, which forms naturally during embryonic development. At Forsea, we harness nature’s own processes by mimicking embryonic development to produce muscle fillets. Leveraging our expertise in fish developmental biology, we are developing cutting-edge technology to produce high-quality cultured fish meat.
Our first product is eel—an extremely endangered species with exceptionally high demand. Recently, we introduced the world’s first cultured Unagi! By reducing eel overfishing, we have a real opportunity to help save this species from extinction.
Our transformative platform technology can be applied to any fish and has already shown success with other fish products. By achieving our goals and revolutionizing the field of cultured meat and food-tech, we hope to contribute to reducing overfishing and preserving our oceans.
